CBSR JUNIOR & SENIOR WEIGHT LIFTING PROGRAM
52 Weeks of Structured Strength Development | 6-Week Training Blocks
BUILD STRENGTH. DEVELOP POWER. IMPROVE PERFORMANCE. PREPARE TO COMPETE.
The CBSR Junior & Senior Weight Lifting Program is a structured, year-round strength development program designed for baseball and softball athletes who want to improve their physical preparation and build a stronger foundation for their sport.
Athletic development requires more than talent alone. It takes consistent training, discipline, proper technique and a commitment to continuous improvement. Strength training can play an important role in helping athletes prepare for the physical demands of baseball and softball, but the key is understanding how to train correctly and develop progressively over time.
This 52-week program is organized into six-week training blocks, providing athletes with a structured framework to approach their strength development throughout the year. Rather than relying on random workouts or guessing what to do in the weight room, athletes can follow a more purposeful approach to their physical preparation.
The goal is to help athletes develop the strength, stability, movement control and training habits that support long-term athletic development.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM?
1. A 52-Week Strength Development Framework
A year-long approach designed to encourage consistency and ongoing physical development. Athletes can work toward building a stronger foundation while developing a better understanding of the commitment required to improve.
2. Six-Week Training Blocks
The program is structured around six-week blocks, allowing athletes to focus on manageable periods of training and review their progress as they move forward. This structure encourages consistency, attention to technique and a progressive approach to strength development.
3. Structured Weight Training
Strength training provides the opportunity to develop the major muscle groups involved in general athletic movement. When appropriately programmed, exercises can help athletes improve lower-body strength, upper-body strength, core stability and overall physical capacity.
The emphasis should be on correct technique, controlled movements and appropriate resistance rather than simply lifting the heaviest weight possible.
4. Lower-Body Strength Development
Strong legs and hips contribute to many of the movements required in baseball and softball, including sprinting, acceleration, deceleration and changing direction. Developing lower-body strength can help establish a foundation for these athletic demands.
5. Upper-Body Strength Development
Upper-body strength contributes to general athletic performance and helps athletes develop the physical capacity required for training and competition. Baseball and softball athletes should combine general strength development with appropriate throwing, hitting and sport-specific preparation.
6. Core Strength and Stability
The ability to control the trunk and maintain stable athletic positions is important across a wide range of sporting movements. Appropriate core training can help athletes develop body control and support the transfer of force between the lower and upper body.
7. Training Discipline and Accountability
A structured program encourages athletes to take responsibility for their preparation. Following a plan, recording progress, respecting recovery and maintaining consistency are important habits that can benefit athletes both on and off the field.
The specific exercises, sets, repetitions, rest periods and weekly schedules are determined by the contents of the program and should be followed as prescribed.
THE BENEFITS FOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL ATHLETES
Build a stronger physical foundation. Develop general strength that supports the physical demands of training, practice and competition.
Support athletic performance. Appropriate strength training can contribute to the physical qualities needed for sprinting, jumping, changing direction and producing force.
Improve confidence in the weight room. Learn to approach strength development with purpose, focus and greater awareness of proper training practices.
Develop consistency and discipline. Build the habits required to follow a long-term plan rather than relying on motivation alone.
Prepare for the demands of a competitive season. Use structured strength development as part of a broader preparation plan that also considers baseball or softball skills, throwing demands, mobility, conditioning and recovery.
Focus on long-term improvement. Understand that meaningful development takes time. Consistent training, appropriate progression and recovery are more valuable than rushing results.
No strength program can guarantee improved playing performance, increased throwing velocity, greater hitting power or recruitment opportunities. Results depend on the individual athlete, their training history, technique, consistency, recovery and many other factors.
